RE/MAX Sustains Its Leadership Of Chicago-Area Residential Sales In 2007

The RE/MAX Northern Illinois network was responsible for the sale of more homes in the Chicago metropolitan area than any other real estate organization in 2007. That continues an 18-year period during which RE/MAX maintained the number one position in the Chicagoland market.

RE/MAX agents listed 20.3 percent of all listed homes sold during 2007. In the Chicago suburbs, RE/MAX had a 26.2 percent market share.

At the same time, RE/MAX agents represented buyers in 16.4 percent of transactions, including 21.1 percent in the Chicago suburbs.

Data on listings sold and who was involved in selling them comes from the Multiple Listing Service of Northern Illinois (MLSNI), which reported that 91,766 residential listings were sold during 2007 in the seven-county Chicago metropolitan area. That is 21.3 percent fewer than the 116,534 homes sold in 2006.

RE/MAX agents listed 18,599 (20.3 percent) of the properties sold. Trailing RE/MAX in market share were Coldwell Banker with 13,311 sales (14.5 percent), Century 21 with 6,835 sales (7.4 percent), Baird & Warner with 4,650 sales (5.1 percent), GMAC with 3,803 sales (4.1 percent), Prudential with 2,660 sales (2.9 percent), @Properties with 2,522 sales (2.7 percent), Realty Executives with 2,065 sales (2.3 percent) and Keller Williams with 2,037 sales (2.2 percent). Data maintained by the MLSNI may not reflect all real estate activity in the market.

As for agents working on behalf of buyers, RE/MAX agents also led the way with a 16.4 percent market share. Other companies in the top five were Coldwell Banker with 12.5 percent, Century 21 with 8 percent, Baird & Warner with 5.3 percent and GMAC with 3.5 percent.
