The RE/MAX Northern Illinois network was responsible for the sale of more homes in the Chicago metropolitan area than any other real estate organization in 2007. That continues an 18-year period during which RE/MAX maintained the number one position in the Chicagoland market.
RE/MAX agents listed 20.3 percent of all listed homes sold during 2007. In the Chicago suburbs, RE/MAX had a 26.2 percent market share.
At the same time, RE/MAX agents represented buyers in 16.4 percent of transactions, including 21.1 percent in the Chicago suburbs.
Data on listings sold and who was involved in selling them comes from the Multiple Listing Service of Northern Illinois (MLSNI), which reported that 91,766 residential listings were sold during 2007 in the seven-county Chicago metropolitan area. That is 21.3 percent fewer than the 116,534 homes sold in 2006.
RE/MAX agents listed 18,599 (20.3 percent) of the properties sold. Trailing RE/MAX in market share were Coldwell Banker with 13,311 sales (14.5 percent), Century 21 with 6,835 sales (7.4 percent), Baird & Warner with 4,650 sales (5.1 percent), GMAC with 3,803 sales (4.1 percent), Prudential with 2,660 sales (2.9 percent), @Properties with 2,522 sales (2.7 percent), Realty Executives with 2,065 sales (2.3 percent) and Keller Williams with 2,037 sales (2.2 percent). Data maintained by the MLSNI may not reflect all real estate activity in the market.
As for agents working on behalf of buyers, RE/MAX agents also led the way with a 16.4 percent market share. Other companies in the top five were Coldwell Banker with 12.5 percent, Century 21 with 8 percent, Baird & Warner with 5.3 percent and GMAC with 3.5 percent.
RE/MAX was the market share leader for listings sold in six of the seven counties covered by the MLSNI data (Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will), as well as in all seven counties when looking at those representing buyers. RE/MAX also was the market share leader in more than 200 towns and communities across Chicagoland.
• Cook County - Of the 53,899 listed homes sold in Cook County, RE/MAX led with 14.8 percent and was number one in buyer representation with 11.7 percent.
• DuPage County - Of the 10,553 listed homes sold in DuPage County, RE/MAX led with 27 percent and was number one in buyer representation with 21.7 percent.
• Elgin Area - Of the 3,423 listed homes sold in the Elgin market area, RE/MAX led with 30 percent and was number one in buyer representation with 25.6 percent. The Elgin market includes the communities of Burlington, Carpentersville, East Dundee, Elgin, Genoa, Gilberts, Hampshire, Hanover Park, Lake Marion, Pingree Grove, Plato, Sleepy Hollow, South Elgin, Streamwood and West Dundee.
• Fox Valley - Of the 2,043 listed homes sold in the Fox Valley market, RE/MAX led with 39.3 percent and was number one in buyer representation with 28.7 percent. The Fox Valley market includes the communities of Batavia, Elburn, Geneva, North Aurora, St. Charles, Sugar Grove and Wayne.
• Greater South Suburbs - Of the 5,282 listed homes sold in the Greater South Suburban market, RE/MAX led with 26.5 percent and was the leader in buyer representation with 18.3 percent. The Greater South Suburban market includes the communities of Beecher, Burnham, Calumet City, Calumet Park, Chicago Heights, Country Club Hills, Crete, Dolton, East Hazel Crest, Flossmoor, Glenwood, Grant Park, Harvey, Hazel Crest, Homewood, Lansing, Lynwood, Markham, Matteson, Midlothian, Oak Forest, Olympia Fields, Park Forest, Richton Park, Riverdale, Sauk Village, South Chicago Heights, South Holland, Steger, Thornton and University Park.
• Kane County - Of the 5,649 listed homes sold in Kane County, RE/MAX led with 32.2 percent and was number one in buyer representation with 25.3 percent.
• Kendall County – Of the 1,742 listed homes sold in Kendall County, RE/MAX was number one in buyer representation with 22.6 percent.
• LaGrange - Of the 686 listed homes sold in the LaGrange market area, RE/MAX led with 22.6 percent, and it was first in buyer representation with 19.8 percent. The LaGrange market includes the communities of Countryside, Hodgkins, Indian Head Park, LaGrange, LaGrange Highlands, LaGrange Park, McCook, Western Springs and Willow Springs.
• Lake County - Of the 8,100 listed homes sold in Lake County, RE/MAX led with 29.3 percent and was number one in buyer representation with 24.4 percent.
• Lincoln Way – Of the 1,010 listed homes sold in the Lincoln Way market area, RE/MAX led with 34.2 percent and was No. 1 in buyer representation with 29.5 percent. The Lincoln Way market includes the communities of Frankfort, Green Garden, Manhattan, Mokena, New Lenox and Wilton Center.
• McHenry County - Of the 3,781 listed homes sold in McHenry County, RE/MAX led with 26.3 percent and was No. 1 in buyer representation with 24.2 percent.
• Northwest Suburbs - Of the 9,066 listed homes sold in the Northwest Suburban market area, RE/MAX led with 27.2 percent and was also the leader in buyer representation at 21.2 percent. The Northwest Suburban market includes the communities of Arlington Heights, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Inverness, Keeneyville, Mt. RE/MAX Expands Leadership Position in O’Hare Area Home Sales Market
The RE/MAX Northern Illinois network increased its market share leadership in the O’Hare area home sales market during 2007 based on sales data available through the Multiple Listing Service of Northern Illinois (MLSNI). RE/MAX agents listed 26.5 percent of all homes sold in the area, up from 25.7 percent during the prior year.
Home sales reported by the MLSNI totaled 789 in the O’Hare area during 2007, a decrease of 37.2 percent from the 1,256 homes sold during 2006.
The O’Hare market area includes the communities of Elmwood Park, Franklin Park, Harwood Heights, Leyden Township, Norridge, Northlake, River Grove, Rosemont and Schiller Park.
The top five real estate organizations in the O’Hare market during 2007, in terms of sold listings, were RE/MAX with 209 (26.5 percent), Century 21 with 126 (16 percent), Coldwell Banker with 55 (7 percent), Realty World with 36 (4.6 percent) and Sergio & Banks with 31 (3.9 percent). Data maintained by the MLSNI may not reflect all real estate activity in a specific market area.
RE/MAX also led the O’Hare market in homes purchased. In 2007, RE/MAX agents represented buyers who purchased 20.2 percent of all listed homes sold in the O’Hare market, topping Century 21 (17.1 percent), Coldwell Banker (5.8 percent), Prudential (2.8 percent) and Realty Exchange (2.3 percent).

Home sales reported by the MLSNI totaled 686 in the LaGrange area during 2007, a decrease of 10.2 percent over the 764 homes sold during the prior year.
The LaGrange market includes the communities of Countryside, Hodgkins, Indian Head Park, LaGrange, LaGrange Highlands, LaGrange Park, McCook, Western Springs and Willow Springs.
