Students at Coal City Elementary School, 300 N. Broadway, Coal City, Ill., will learn about hot air ballooning when the RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon and its crew visit the school on April 16 to present a special interactive educational program. The visit is part of an on-going balloon education program developed by RE/MAX Northern Illinois.
The 560 students at Coal City Elementary will learn about various aspects of ballooning, its history and the scientific principles involved. Plus, they will see a demonstration on how the balloon functions. During one portion of the program, students can walk inside the balloon envelope, which is partially inflated with cold air.
The program is designed to educate Coal City students about ballooning and how it relates to the subjects they study in school. So that all students can attend, the program will be presented at both 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. in the school gymnasium.
Meghan Foley of RE/MAX Top Properties in Morris, Ill., is sponsoring this event.

RE/MAX Makes an Impact in Lockport with New Leadership, New Identity
New leadership and a revamped identity herald the start of a new era for the RE/MAX office in Lockport, Ill. Kelly Weis and Jeffrey McGinn acquired the office, now known as RE/MAX Impact, in early February. The office currently has more than 200 listed properties for sale.
Both Weis and McGinn grew up in Lockport. Weis has been a RE/MAX agent in Lockport since 2003 and began her real estate career more than a decade ago. McGinn has been the successful owner and CEO of Community Driving School for the last 14 years. He also has considerable experience as a real estate investor and property manager.
“As a life-long resident of Lockport, I have seen incredible growth. Now, with the extension of I-355, the potential for residential and commercial growth in Lockport and the surrounding area will be tremendous,” Weis said.
The first order of business for the new ownership, according to McGinn, is to improve client service by providing greater support to the agents.
“Our plan includes an expanded office support staff, the continuous upgrading of our office technology and a high level of involvement in our community” he said. “By implementing this plan, our goal is to bring the highest level of service to our buyers, sellers and agents.”
Another initiative planned for the office is a mentoring program designed to give newer agents personalized counsel on how best to market their properties and services.
“We are impressed with the plans that Kelly and Jeff have for RE/MAX Impact, and are confident that the office has a bright future of service to the Lockport community,” said Jim Merrion, regional director of RE/MAX Northern Illinois. “RE/MAX is already the market-share leader in Will County, accounting for 27.2 percent of listed homes sold in 2007. We expect RE/MAX Impact to help us build on that success.”
