RE/MAX Continued Leading Chicago Real Estate Market Based on 2008 Home Sales Activity

The RE/MAX Northern Illinois network was responsible for the sale of more homes in the metropolitan Chicago real estate market than any other brokerage organization during 2008. RE/MAX has maintained the number one position in the Chicago real estate market for the last 20 years.

“In a challenging environment for Illinois real estate sales, RE/MAX agents continue to demonstrate their skills and commitment,” said Jim Merrion, regional director of the RE/MAX Northern Illinois real estate network.

RE/MAX agents listed 19.7 percent, or one of every five homes sold during 2008. In the suburban Chicago real estate market, RE/MAX led with a 25.7 percent market share, selling more than one of every four homes.

During the same period, RE/MAX agents represented buyers in 16.4 percent of transactions, including 21.3 percent in the Chicago suburbs, more than any other real estate company.

The data, which was provided by Midwest Real Estate Data, LLC (MRED), also showed that 67,938 residential listings were sold during 2008 in the seven-county metropolitan Chicago real estate market, which includes Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will counties. That is 26 percent fewer than the 91,766 homes sold in 2007.

RE/MAX agents listed 13,412 (19.7 percent) of the properties sold. Trailing RE/MAX in market share were Coldwell Banker with 10,292 sales (15.1 percent), Century 21 with 4,428 sales (6.5 percent), Baird & Warner with 3,520 sales (5.2 percent), Prudential with 2,927 sales (4.3 percent), GMAC with 2,856 sales (4.2 percent), @Properties with 1,943 sales (2.9 percent), Realty Executives with 1,707 sales (2.5 percent), Keller Williams with 1,608 sales (2.4 percent) and Rubloff with 786 sales (1.2 percent). Data maintained by MRED may not reflect all real estate activity in the market.

In the metro Chicago real estate market, no one helped more buyers purchase homes than RE/MAX. During 2008, RE/MAX agents led the way with a 16.4 percent market share. Other companies in the top five were Coldwell Banker with 12.3 percent, Century 21 with 7.7 percent, Baird & Warner with 5.4 percent and Prudential with 4.5 percent.

According to MRED data, RE/MAX was the market share leader for listings sold in five of the seven counties, and it led all seven counties in buyer representation. RE/MAX also was the market share leader in more than 200 towns and communities across Chicagoland.
