RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon To Make Educational Visit To Haines Elementary School In Chicago On May 19

The students at John C. Haines Elementary School, 247 W. 23rd Pl., in Chinatown located in Chicago, Illinois, will get an exciting introduction to hot air ballooning when the RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon and its crew visit the school on May 19. The visit is part of an on-going interactive educational program developed and sponsored by the RE/MAX Northern Illinois real estate network.

The 750 students and staff at Haines will learn about various aspects of ballooning, including its history, the scientific principles involved and a demonstration on how the balloon functions. The program will be presented three times in the gymnasium at Haines to accommodate all the students, once at 9:30 a.m. and again at 10:25 a.m. and 11:25 a.m. As part of the educational presentation, the balloon envelope will be inflated with cold air so that students can walk inside it.

Students also will go outside for a demonstration of the balloon basket and its propane burners, which heat air to lift the balloon.

RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon To Visit Locke School In Chicago On May 22 As Students Celebrate Success In Reading Challenge

The students at Josephine Locke Elementary School, 2828 N. Oak Park Ave., in Montclare neighborhood of Chicago, IL, will get an exciting introduction to hot air ballooning when the RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon and its crew visit the school on May 22. The visit is part of an on-going interactive educational program developed and sponsored by the RE/MAX Northern Illinois real estate network.

The 1,260 students at Locke earned the balloon visit by conquering a challenge from their teachers to read 40,000 books during the school year, which they first accomplished during the 2007-2008 school year by reading 48,320 books. The goal for the current school year was also 40,000 books, and it looks as if the students will exceed it. To learn about the reading challenge, visit the school’s Web site: www.lockeschool.org.

The balloon visit is one of many activities planned for the students that day – an all day recognition/celebration of the students’ achievements.
The presentation by the balloon crew will teach the students about various aspects of ballooning, including its history, the scientific principles involved and a demonstration on how the balloon functions.

The program will be presented at 9 a.m. outdoors on the school playground, weather permitting, but can be moved indoors if required. The balloon envelope will be inflated with hot air to its full 75-foot height if the program is held outdoors. If the program moves indoors, the envelope is inflated with cold air so that students can walk inside it.

During the presentation, the balloon envelope will be inflated with cold air so that students can walk inside it.

RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon In Joliet On May 19 To Help Cornerstone Make Dreams Come True

The RE/MAX hot air balloon will make a special trip to the Joliet Airport in Joliet, Ill., on May 19 to help Cornerstone Services, Inc., a not-for-profit agency that aids adults with developmental disabilities, make some dreams come true.

For many disabled adults, the idea of riding in a balloon is a long-time wish. At Joliet Airport from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., several dozen disabled adults from around Illinois will have an opportunity, weather permitting, to experience the thrill of lifting off the ground in the RE/MAX balloon for a tethered ride that takes them 30 to 40 feet off the ground.

The balloon’s visit is sponsored by Ken Saieg of RE/MAX Realty of Joliet in cooperation with the RE/MAX Northern Illinois real estate network. The visit is part of Freedom Quest, a state-wide effort to encourage Illinois political leaders to increase the resources devoted to assisting disabled adults. The event in Joliet is one of 13 planned around the state prior to a May 21 gathering in Springfield to petition the governor.

The ceremony at Joliet Airport, which will also help celebrate Cornerstone’s 40th anniversary, will include the presentation of three Dream Maker Awards to individuals or groups who have made special contributions to helping the disabled realize their dreams.
